Summary:

Former Senators Sam Nunn (D-GA), Pete Domenici, (R-NM), Warren Rudman (R-NH), and Evan Bayh (D-IN) have convened a bipartisan group of former Senators and Representatives to come together for four forums in the weeks before the first presidential debate to raise public consciousness of the country’s growing and unsustainable debt.  They are calling their effort Strengthening of America—Our Children’s Future.

The third forum will be take place in New York City on Thursday, September 27, 2012.  

This session will look at challenges of pro-growth tax reform.  This forum will feature two panels.

The first panel will feature former Treasury Secretary and Director of the White House National Economic Council Lawrence H. Summers and former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Martin Feldstein.

The second panel will feature Chairman and CEO of Honeywell David M. Cote, Chairman of the American Business Conference and CEO of SEI Alfred P. West, Jr. and COO of Qwiki, Inc., Navin Thukkaram.

Each of the four forums resembles a congressional hearing, with high-level former U.S. government officials providing remarks before a panel of former elected representatives.  

Previous sessions have focused on the national security implications of the debt and bipartisan plans for addressing the problem. This Thursday's program will focus on pro-growth tax reform, and the final hearing Oct. 1 will deal with the imperative of entitlement and health care cost control.  Strengthening of America—Our Children’s Future is coordinating with the Campaign to Fix the Debt, the Comeback America Initiative, and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation’s ongoing efforts to call attention to the fiscal challenges threatening America’s future.
