The baby boom generation will bust the United States government, according to the non-partisan Concord Coalition.

The coalition says that without reform to Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare, the spending on those entitlement programs will equal today's entire federal budget as baby boomers begin consuming more and more resources as they retire. A member of the Concord Coalition spoke at the Big Sky Pachyderm Club meeting Wednesday.

Janet Ryan, western regional director of the Concord Coalition, said spending on Social Security and Medicaid equals 42 percent of government spending with 13 percent of the country's population receiving benefits. As boomers retire over 20 percent of the population will consume those services.
