RATING PRESIDENT, CONGRESS ON DEFICIT REDUCTION

WASHINGTON — The Concord Coalition today launched its first “Quarterly Deficit Report,” a document intended to shed light on progress Congress and the president are making toward balancing the budget and putting our largest entitlement programs on a sustainable path.

“Too often in Washington there is a disconnect between words and action regarding the federal budget,” said Martha Phillips, executive director of the Concord Coalition. “While the surprisingly low budget deficit for the year just completed was very good news, the past year’s record indicates just how far the talk about balancing the budget strays from substantive action to wipe out our red ink.”

Along with grading Congress and the president on issues of fiscal responsibility, the Quarterly Deficit Report will provide up-to-date budget numbers for the current fiscal year, historic budget tables, and 10-year budget projections by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.”
