Tomorrow former congressmen David Jolly and Patrick Murphy will discuss excessive division and gridlock and how, through bipartisan leadership, the nation’s political systems could function more effectively.
The program, “Let’s Fix Washington: Breaking Through Political Dysfunction and Faulty Fiscal Policy,” will be presented in the Rich Room (204) at the Warren B. Rudman Center at the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
Jolly and Murphy are on a national speaking tour called “Let’s Fix Washington.”
Registration Tuesday begins at 11:45 a.m. and the program will take place from noon to 1 p.m.
The Rudman Center and The Concord Coalition are sponsoring the program, which is free and open to the public.
Robert L. Bixby, executive director of The Concord Coalition, will serve as moderator.
The Speakers:
David Jolly was a Republican congressman for Florida from 2014 to 2017. He is a strong campaign finance reform advocate who introduced legislation to prohibit any member of Congress from soliciting a campaign donation. In Congress Jolly also promoted balanced budgets and tax reform, always looking to build consensus with colleagues across the aisle.
Patrick Murphy was a Democratic congressman for Florida from 2013 to 2017. He introduced legislation to eliminate billions in wasteful government spending and pushed for reforms in the national flood insurance market. He also formed the bipartisan United Solutions Caucus to bring members of both parties together to explore ways to get the nation’s fiscal house in order.
Robert L. Bixby is executive director of The Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan grassroots organization that advocates for generationally responsible fiscal policy.
