BIPARTISAN MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO PARTICIPATE IN "GREAT SOCIAL SECURITY DEBATE" ON JULY 1 IN R.I.

WASHINGTON–A delegation of bipartisan congressional leaders will
join Vice President Al Gore at "The Great Social Security Debate," a
national forum cosponsored by AARP and the Concord Coalition, on
Wednesday, July 1, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Rhodes on-the-Pawtuxet in
Cranston, R.I.

The "Great Social Security Debate" series is designed to bring
the public into the discussion over ways to ensure the long-term
solvency of the Social Security program. The focus of the Rhode Island
forum will be "Retirement in the 21st Century."

national forum cosponsored by AARP and the Concord Coalition, on
Wednesday, July 1, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Rhodes on-the-Pawtuxet in
Cranston, R.I.

The "Great Social Security Debate" series is designed to bring
the public into the discussion over ways to ensure the long-term
solvency of the Social Security program. The focus of the Rhode Island
forum will be "Retirement in the 21st Century."

The members of Congress who will attend the event include:

  • Sen. John Chafee (R-R.I.),
  • Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.),
  • Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.), and
  • Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.).
  • Sens. Chafee, Sen. Reed, Rep. Sanford, and Rep. Rangel will make
    opening statements during the forum and participate in a dialogue with
    the participating audience and Vice President Gore.

    Under the theme of "The Great Social Security Debate," this
    series of national forums are cosponsored by AARP and the Concord
    Coalition in collaboration with Americans Discuss Social Security, a
    project of the Pew Charitable Trusts.
