The Concord Coalition announced today that Ed Lorenzen has been hired to become
the organization’s Policy Director. Lorenzen worked on Capitol Hill for fourteen
years, focusing primarily on fiscal and economic policy. Most recently, he
served as Legislative Director in the office of former Rep.
Charles Stenholm (D-TX).
Lorenzen coordinated Congressman Stenholm’s activities as Co-Chairman for Policy
of the "Blue Dog Coalition" in the House of Representatives, including drafting
the annual Blue Dog alternative budgets,
which were widely praised as the most fiscally responsible budget plans in
Congress. In addition, he handled the staff work for the Public Pension Reform
Caucus, which Rep. Stenholm co-chaired with
Representative Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) and helped develop the only bipartisan Social
Security reform proposal in Congress.
“The Concord Coalition is extremely pleased that Ed Lorenzen is joining our
team. In his 14 years of Capitol Hill experience, Ed has become a top budget and
entitlement analyst and is respected on both sides of the aisle — a rare
quality these days and one that Concord values highly,” said Concord Coalition
Co-Chair and former Senator Warren B. Rudman (R-NH).
“Ed Lorenzen has a great analytical mind and West Texas tractor seat common
sense. He knows fiscal issues inside out and has the ability to explain them in
a way that others can understand them,” said Stenholm, who now serves on The
Concord Coalition Board of Directors.
"I am excited to be a part of an organization that is dedicated to educating the
public about deficits and long term fiscal challenges facing our nation," said
Lorenzen. "I believe that The Concord Coalition has a vital role to play in
ensuring that voters, as well as policymakers, look beyond short-term interests
and confront the tough choices that will be necessary to secure our economic
future.”
In addition to his duties as Policy Director, Lorenzen will coordinate Concord’s
field activities in the Northeast region.
Ed graduated from The American University in 1992 with a degree in government
and international relations. He is originally from Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
