WASHINGTON — The Concord Coalition will honor five individuals on Thursday for their many years of distinguished public service with the 2013 Paul E. Tsongas Economic Patriot Award: Former Federal Reserve Vice Chair Dr. Alice Rivlin; former senators Sam Nunn, Pete Domenici and Bill Brock, and the late Rev. Bill Gray, who served as chairman of the House Budget Committee.

“We are pleased to recognize the enormous contributions that these five individuals have made to our nation,” said Robert L. Bixby, Concord’s executive director. “Each of them has played a unique role in public affairs. All have provided thoughtful leadership over decades, understood the importance of bipartisan cooperation, and sought to protect younger Americans and future generations from heavy government debt and misguided fiscal policies.”

The honorees will receive the Economic Patriot Award at Concord’s annual dinner in Washington this Thursday. Rivlin, Nunn, Domenici and Brock will also participate in a panel discussion on the nation’s fiscal and economic challenges at the dinner, which will be held at the Phoenix Park Hotel.

The Patriot Award is named for the late Paul E. Tsongas, one of Concord’s founding co-chairmen. It honors those who have demonstrated a commitment to fiscal responsibility and the protection of younger generations from irresponsible fiscal policies. Over the years the award has been given to individuals of varied backgrounds and political affiliations.

Media coverage of the Oct. 10 program, which will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m., is welcome.
