ST. LOUIS — In advance of the Oct. 9 presidential debate at Washington University, students there will participate in an exercise this Wednesday night in which they will face some of the difficult budget choices awaiting the next administration and Congress.
The exercise, developed by the non-partisan Concord Coalition, calls for participants to work in groups to develop plans to put the federal budget on a more sustainable course. They will discuss and vote on proposals involving taxes, defense, Medicare, Social Security and other issues.
The program Wednesday, entitled “Fiscal Futures: Budget Challenge,” will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Tisch Commons on the university’s Danforth Campus. Concord’s Phil Smith will conduct the exercise.
This is part of a series of programs on the federal budget that Concord is presenting at universities where this year’s presidential and vice presidential debates are being held. Co-hosts for Wednesday’s program are the Washington University Student Union, WashU Votes, and the university’s Presidential Debate Steering Committee.
