DES MOINES — An interview today with Ohio Gov. John Kasich will kick off Your First Budget, a series on the MC22 television network that will provide voters in Iowa and elsewhere with critical information on the budget and economic proposals of the 2016 presidential candidates.
The interview series is sponsored by First Budget — a joint effort of The Concord Coalition and the Campaign to Fix the Debt — with MC22, a community news network serving Iowa and parts of several other Midwestern states.
Jeff Angelo, a media personality and former Iowa state senator, will conduct the half-hour interviews in the coming months. They will be studio-broadcast and include topics such as the national debt, Social Security, health care, tax policies, national defense and domestic investments.
The interview with Kasich, a Republican presidential candidate, will be broadcast today at 6:30 p.m. CST. It will air again at 7:30 p.m. CST on Thursday, Nov. 12. The interview will be available to MC22 subscribers in Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota.
All of the coming interviews with the candidates will be available on First Budget’s website shortly after they are initially broadcast. The interviews will also be available at any time through the end of the year on the network’s On Demand platform under “Campaign 2016.”
“Unfortunately, the federal budget has long been on an unsustainable path,” says Sara Imhof, First Budget’s Iowa state director. “Under current policies, the federal debt — which is already well over $18 trillion — is projected to grow substantially over the next decade, even as important national priorities are squeezed tighter and tighter. Your First Budget will give Iowa voters and other viewers with opportunities to hear directly from the candidates on the fiscal and economic policies they would pursue.”
