WASHINGTON — The Concord Coalition has hired Phil LaRue, a former senior advisor on Capitol Hill, as the organization’s director of government relations.
“We are delighted that Phil is joining The Concord Coalition team. His passion for fiscal responsibility, his strong communications skills and his ability to work across party lines are a perfect fit,” said Concord Coalition Executive Director Robert L. Bixby.
As director of government relations, LaRue will work with members of Congress and their staffs to educate the public on the importance of sustainable budget policies. Concord regularly works with lawmakers to host interactive budget exercises, chart talks and roundtable discussions aimed at promoting fiscal responsibility. LaRue will also be responsible for enhancing Concord’s communications with lawmakers and their staffs by disseminating policy material from the organization and convening bipartisan briefings.
“I am excited to play a role in revitalizing a serious, bipartisan discussion of the issues related to our national debt and deficit,” LaRue said. “The Congressional Budget Office’s projections make clear that Democrats and Republicans must come together and take action to put our country on a sounder fiscal footing as soon as possible. If we do, we can pave the way to a brighter economic future for all of us.”
LaRue previously served as director of communications for the moderate 46-Member New Democrat Coalition in the House, where he worked under the organization’s Chairman Ron Kind (D-Wis.). He also served as director of communications for Rep. Peter Visclosky (D-Ind.), ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Defense. Both Kind and Visclosky have received Concord’s Paul E. Tsongas Economic Patriot Award.
A native of West Chester, Pennsylvania, LaRue is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and philosophy.
LaRue can be reached at (484) 883-8261 or [email protected].
Media Contact: Steve Winn, (703) 254-7828, [email protected].
