Two Top Economists to Speak on Income Inequality and Fiscal Responsibility Oct. 17 at Saint Anselm College in Manchester

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Douglas Holtz-Eakin and Jared Bernstein, two of the nation’s leading economists, will discuss how income inequality and fiscal responsibility relate in a program Monday, Oct. 17 at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Douglas Holtz-Eakin and Jared Bernstein, two of the nation’s leading economists, will discuss how income inequality and fiscal responsibility relate in a program Monday, Oct. 17 at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College.

The program, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., is entitled “Balancing Incomes, Balancing Budgets: Can Washington Do Both?” The discussion, to be moderated by Janet Hook of The Wall Street Journal, will include policy considerations for the next president.

The program is free and open to the public but registration is required and available here.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin is the president of the American Action Forum and served on the congressionally-chartered Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. During 2001 and 2002, he was chief economist of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers. From 2003 to 2005 he was the director of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. In 2007 and 2008 he was the director of domestic and economic policy for Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign.

Jared Bernstein is a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. From 2009 to 2011, he was the chief economist and economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden, executive director of the White House Task Force on the Middle Class, and a member of President Obama’s economic team. Earlier Bernstein was a senior economist and director of the Living Standards Program at the Economic Policy Institute in Washington.

Janet Hook is a political reporter for The Wall Street Journal’s Washington bureau and has covered Congress and national politics since 1995.
